Are Younger Colleagues Watching Movies and Shows Instead of Working?

If you’ve ever wondered what your Gen Z colleagues are up to while working from home, a recent survey might have the answer. According to research conducted by streamer Tubi in partnership with Harris Poll, a whopping 84% of employed Gen Z individuals admit to watching TV or movies during work hours at home.

And if they’ve told you otherwise, they may not have been entirely truthful—nearly half of those surveyed confessed to fibbing to their bosses or co-workers about their streaming habits. In fact, more than half of the respondents confessed to procrastinating on work tasks in order to finish watching a show or movie.

But don’t think that a return to the office will make a difference—38% of those surveyed admitted to streaming content even while at work in a traditional office setting.

This survey included the participation of 2,502 adults based in the U.S. However, it’s important to note that the findings are not based on a probability sample and do not include a margin of error estimate.

So, the next time you catch your Gen Z coworker looking a little too engrossed in their screen during work hours, they might just be catching up on their favorite show.
