Discovering Lessons at Cincinnati Museum’s Julia Child Exhibit
The Julia Child exhibit at the Cincinnati Museum Center is an absolute delight. As a food writer, I must admit I didn’t know much about Julia Child beyond her famous cookbook and TV show. But over time, I’ve dived into her world through conversations with other food lovers and experts. My interest peaked after watching the movie “Julie & Julia” and witnessing the resurgence of Child’s popularity with documentaries and TV series.
Taking my daughter to the exhibit was a wonderful experience. The cozy display features floral wallpaper, old photos, and details about Child’s remarkable life. Replicas of her kitchen tools, handwritten letters, and more offer a peek into her world. What stood out most were interactive elements for kids—young visitors can have fun on a replica set of “The French Chef” and try their hand at filming with a vintage TV camera.
One highlight for my daughter was posing in a clawfoot bathtub, recreating a memorable photo of Julia and her husband. There’s also a section where visitors can write personal messages to Child in a digital guestbook. It’s a heartwarming experience that gives you a window into the life of this culinary icon. Whether you’re a die-hard Julia Child fan or just curious about her story, this exhibit is a must-see.
