Max Streaming Service Launches in Australia – Latest Updates
Warner Bros. Discovery’s Max streaming service has officially launched in Australia, sporting a sleek new black-and-white color scheme. This marks the final big player in the streaming space to make its debut Down Under. Previously, HBO content in Australia was tied to local cable service Foxtel and their SVOD app called Binge. Shows like “The White Lotus” and “The Pitt” will continue to stream on both Binge and Max for now, except for “Last Week Tonight with John Oliver” which will remain exclusive to Binge until November.
Moving forward, HBO shows such as the second seasons of “The Last of Us” and “The Rehearsal” will be exclusive to Max, with existing arrangements possibly affecting this. Current Foxtel subscribers can access the Max ‘Basic with Ads’ option at no extra cost, but the ad-free option is priced at $17.99 per month now and will increase to $21.99 per month starting April 30th.
The library catalogue of HBO has already shifted to Max, including titles like the adult-animated series “Harley Quinn.” Binge, on the other hand, still features content from other sources, particularly NBCUniversal. However, the HBO & Max deal has been a key asset for Binge. With the launch of Max in Australia, the service is highlighting its TCM hub with classic Warner Bros. Pictures films.
Australia may have been late to the streaming game, but it has quickly caught up with the likes of Netflix, Amazon Prime Video, Disney+, and more. The Max launch event in Sydney is set to feature stars like Bella Ramsey, Patrick Schwarzenegger, and Kaitlyn Dever. It’s an exciting time for streaming enthusiasts in Australia as they welcome the arrival of Max to their screens.
