Drive to Survive Season 7: The Most Chaotic Yet
Netflix’s Drive to Survive has returned for its seventh season, and as someone who discovered Formula One through this series, I couldn’t be more excited. It has me ready to wake up at 4 a.m. GMT for the Australian Grand Prix this weekend. For many like me, the show makes F1 more accessible by providing context behind the fast cars and mysterious drivers.
Last season was full of drama on and off the track, and Drive to Survive captures it all in its signature chaotic style. Watching it back now, I appreciate it even more after a day at Silverstone where I got a smile from Charles Leclerc. This season, Leclerc faces new competition in the heartthrob department after the bombshell announcement of Lewis Hamilton leaving Mercedes to join Ferrari.
In addition to the excitement of new faces in F1, the show also dives into serious allegations of sexual misconduct against Red Bull Team Principal, Christian Horner. Despite the significant nature of the accusations, the series spends a mere 20 minutes on the topic before moving on. It’s disappointing to see this important issue sidelined so quickly without giving a voice to the woman who brought forward the claims.
While Horner and his drama take center stage, another character, Flavio Briatore, emerges as a potential new villain in the F1 world. With his shady past and desire to influence team Alpine, he adds another layer of intrigue to the series. Meanwhile, McLaren makes a statement on the track by challenging Red Bull’s dominance in the Constructor’s Championship.
As the season unfolds, Drive to Survive keeps the audience hooked with its mix of on-track action and off-track drama. Whether you’re a die-hard fan or a newcomer to the sport, this season promises to keep you on the edge of your seat.
