Prime Video UK Director Chris Bird Resigns After 14 Years
Chris Bird, the Director of Prime Video UK, is stepping down after an impressive 14-year tenure. Brigitte Ricou-Bellan, head of Prime Video’s EU Established division, announced Bird’s departure to staff, indicating that he will be leaving the business this month. Following his departure, the search for his successor will commence shortly.
This marks the second significant executive exit from Prime Video’s UK office in recent months, with Barry Furlong stepping down from his role as VP of Prime Video EMEA in January. The position was filled by Andrew Bennett. Additionally, James Farrell, Head of International Originals, left his role after more than a decade with Amazon.
Bird has been a key figure in Amazon’s streaming service evolution, joining the company in 2011 through their acquisition of LoveFilm. His contributions have been instrumental in growing Prime Video UK into a leading streaming service, overseeing milestones such as the launch of the UEFA Champion’s League and the acquisition of Bray Studios.
In a message to staff, Bird reflected on the achievements during his time with Prime Video UK, highlighting the creation of local programming like “Clarkson’s Farm” and “The Lord of The Rings: The Rings of Power.” He emphasized the team’s dedication to offering diverse content and innovative solutions to customers.
As Bird moves on to new endeavors, Prime Video UK will continue under the Prime Video EU Established division, encompassing markets in the UK, Germany, Italy, France, and Spain. A separate unit, EU Expansion, is focused on growth in additional European regions, as outlined by Ritchie Ordonez in a recent interview with Deadline.
Bird expressed gratitude to colleagues and leaders for their collaboration and support throughout his tenure. He acknowledged the dedication of the team in upholding the principles of customer service, innovation, and excellence that have shaped Prime Video UK’s success. As he bids farewell, Bird leaves behind a legacy of impactful contributions to the streaming entertainment industry.
