Prime Video UK Director Chris Bird Leaves Amazon After 14 Years
After over 14 exciting years with Amazon, Chris Bird is stepping down as the director of Prime Video UK. In a heartfelt email to his colleagues, Bird shared the news of his departure, followed by a message from Brigitte Ricou-Bellan, the head of Prime Video’s EU established division. Bird is set to leave the company in March, and the search for his successor will soon begin, with his direct staff transitioning to report to Ricou-Bellan in the interim.
Reflecting on his time at Amazon, Bird expressed gratitude for the remarkable staff he has had the pleasure of working with. From learning and experimenting to taking risks and pushing boundaries, he credits his colleagues for their brilliance, patience, and innovation, acknowledging how they have shaped him into a better person.
Bird’s journey began in 2004 with LoveFilm, a UK-based DVD and streaming service that later integrated into Prime Video in 2010. Over the years, he has led content acquisition teams across Europe and, more recently, assumed leadership of UK operations. Notable series like The Devil’s Hour and Clarkson’s Farm, as well as the production of The Lord of The Rings: The Rings of Power in the UK, have marked his time at Prime Video UK.
Moreover, the streaming giant has expanded its studio infrastructure at Bray and Shepperton under Bird’s tenure, alongside his involvement in government select committees. As Bird prepares to depart, his impact on Prime Video UK’s growth and success is a testament to his dedication and leadership within the company.
