When Do the Oscars Start: Free TV and Streaming Guide
The much-anticipated Oscars 2025 celebration will take place this Sunday, showcasing heavy hitters such as Emilia Pérez, A Complete Union, Anora, The Brutalist, Conclave, and Wicked competing for the top statuettes.
This year’s ceremony marks the end of an unpredictable awards season that has seen frontrunners shift momentum in the race for the coveted Academy Awards.
Initially, Emilia Pérez appeared to be the film to beat with 13 nominations, including Best Picture. However, the film faced a setback when Karla Sofía Gascón, who plays the lead role in the musical crime drama, was called out for posting offensive tweets about George Floyd and Muslims between 2020 and 2021.
Since the revelation of these tweets, Emilia Pérez’s Oscar campaign has faced challenges, with limited appearances on the awards circuit. Despite this, Zoe Saldaña managed to secure several wins for Best Supporting Actress.
With the Oscars set to air live on ABC-TV and stream on Hulu from the Dolby Theatre at Ovation Hollywood in Los Angeles, viewers can tune in at 7 p.m. ET / 3 p.m. PT. This year’s host is TV funnyman Conan O’Brien.
Competing for Best Picture alongside Emilia Pérez are A Complete Union, Anora, The Brutalist, Conclave, Dune: Part Two, I’m Still Here, Nickel Boys, The Substance, and Wicked. The historical epic The Brutalist and movie musical Wicked closely follow Emilia Pérez with 10 Oscar nominations each, while the Bob Dylan biopic A Complete Union boasts eight nominations.
Before the Oscars ceremony kicks off, ABC will provide extensive coverage of the event, starting with On the Red Carpet at the Oscars airing on ABC-owned stations and affiliates, as well as streaming on ABC News online at 3:30 p.m. ET/12:30 p.m. PT. The Oscars Red Carpet Show will follow at 6:30 p.m. ET/3:30 p.m. PT on ABC-TV and Hulu.
The star-studded presenter lineup includes last year’s acting category winners: Cillian Murphy, Emma Stone, Robert Downey Jr., and Da’Vine Joy Randolph. Unfortunately, Harrison Ford will be unable to attend the ceremony due to a shingles diagnosis, as reported by Entertainment Weekly.
Don’t miss the 97th Oscars live on ABC-TV and streaming on Hulu at 7 p.m. ET / 3 p.m. PT to see who takes home the top honors of the night.
