OHA trustees inauguration on Maui – SEO optimized
The Office of Hawaiian Affairs trustees who were elected in 2024 officially took office during a ceremony on Thursday at Central Union Church in Honolulu.
Among those sworn into their new terms were trustee Kaiali’i Kahele from Hawai’i Island, as well as re-elected trustees Dan Ahuna from Kaua’i and Ni’ihau, Keli’i Akina representing the At-Large community, and Luana Alapa from Moloka’i and Lāna’i.
The theme of the ceremony was “Āina Aloha” (Our Beloved Land) and was attended by various community members and officials. New trustees were honored with traditional feathered lei by their families, adding to the ceremonial Hawaiian ambiance of the event.
During the ceremony, OHA Chair Kaiali’i Kahele shared his vision for the future of OHA, emphasizing the importance of collaboration and understanding within the community. He highlighted the agency’s commitment to creating affordable housing in Kaka’ako Makai and focusing on indigenous rights and restorative justice in the upcoming year.
