Third Annual NWSL Broadcast Bootcamp Wraps Up
The National Women’s Soccer League wrapped up its third annual NWSL Broadcast Bootcamp this week at NEP South Florida in Fort Lauderdale. During the two-day event, current players and NWSL alumni dove into the world of live sports broadcasting and production, gaining hands-on experience and valuable skills.
Launched in 2023, the bootcamp is part of the league’s ongoing commitment to help players explore various off-field roles in the sports industry. What started with just two participants has now grown to include 11 players in this year’s program. It’s worth noting that Darian Jenkins, a former NWSL player who now works as a studio analyst for national broadcasts on CBS and Scripps Sports, took part in the inaugural bootcamp.
Participants in this year’s bootcamp had the opportunity to try their hand at play-by-play announcing and analysis, working closely with NWSL media partner broadcasters like JP Dellacamera, Lori Lindsey, Maura Sheridan, and Mike Watts. They also got a peek into the world of live sports production, exploring roles such as match producer, director, replay operator, and graphics producer.
“We were so excited to see another successful bootcamp in Ft. Lauderdale and are grateful for the energy and enthusiasm our player participants brought to the event,” shared NWSL Senior Director of Broadcast and Production Megan Buchan. “We take pride in hosting programs like these that empower players to consider careers after they hang up their boots and provide them with the tools, knowledge, and connections they need to thrive beyond the field.”
In addition to their hands-on experience, all participants will receive demo reels showcasing their on-camera talents. These reels will be shared with media companies, including the NWSL’s partners like CBS Sports, ESPN, Prime Video, and Scripps Sports. It’s a great opportunity for these players to take the next step in their broadcasting and production careers.
