Netflix’s exciting new venture in Monmouth County, New Jersey promises to bring a massive film studio to the East Coast. The state has given the green light to Netflix’s plans for a 289-acre, $903 million campus known as Netflix Studios Fort Monmouth.

This new flagship production location in Oceanport, New Jersey will include Netflix offices, 12 soundstages, backlot areas, and various other film production facilities. Located just a short 30-mile drive from Newark Liberty International Airport, it’s set to become a hub for film execs operating on the East Coast.

New Jersey Governor Phil Murphy expressed his enthusiasm for this project, stating that it will create thousands of good-paying jobs, support local businesses, and boost the regional economy. The campus will also retain some original elements of the former military base, like recognizable brick archways.

Netflix first won the bid for the site back in 2022, which occupies a significant portion of a former U.S. Air Base that closed in 2011. The project has been in the works for some time, with planning managed by the Fort Monmouth Economic Revitalization Authority in collaboration with Netflix’s co-CEO, Ted Sarandos.

Looking ahead, the project aims to bring 1,500 permanent and 3,500 construction jobs to the area, revitalizing the region’s economic landscape. This initiative promises to breathe new life into a location that has historical significance, having opened in 1928 and played a role during World War II.

With Netflix leading the way, this studio marks New Jersey’s ascent as a notable player in the film and television production industry. The sprawling site holds a promising future as it transforms into a cutting-edge film production complex, breathing new life into an area steeped in history.
