Ben Stiller’s Christmas Movie “Nutcrackers” Review: Surprising Quality

I watched Hulu’s Ben Stiller flick Nutcrackers, fully prepared to roast a Christmas movie, but ended up pleasantly surprised. In the beginning, it felt like a standard Stiller film, with him getting frustrated in funny ways. The occasional appearance of Linda Cardellini added a nice touch that kept me engaged.

The story follows Mike Maxwell, a city guy who suddenly has to take care of his sister’s four unruly kids. It’s the classic tale of a workaholic learning to love family, but there are some unexpected twists along the way.

The film takes a turn for the better in the third act, with a sequence that is both sweet and slightly unconventional. Directed by David Gordon Green, known for both hits and misses, this part of the movie stands out as heartfelt and genuine. It may not be a masterpiece, but it’s a refreshing change from the typical family fare.

Overall, Nutcrackers is a surprisingly enjoyable watch, especially considering it’s free on Hulu. It’s far from perfect, but it’s definitely worth a viewing for a cozy night in.
