Peacock Lane Holiday Light Display: Music, Hot Cocoa, Family Fun Kick Off Event
Peacock Lane in southeast Portland lit up the night on its opening night Sunday, drawing in hundreds to enjoy its festive light displays. Ted Brockwood, a resident of Southeast Peacock Lane for 21 years, is the mastermind behind the famous Charlie Brown House, adding whimsical touches year after year. According to Brockwood, the joy of creating these displays isn’t just for the visitors but also for the homeowners themselves.
The magic of Peacock Lane isn’t just in the lights; it’s in the unique personal touches that each display brings. From Lucy’s booth for photo ops to free hot cocoa, snowfall, and an abundance of twinkling lights, Sunday’s kickoff was a hit for all ages. The energy and excitement in the air are palpable, with kids running by in sheer delight, spreading holiday cheer.
Contrary to local myth, there’s no contractual obligation for homeowners to decorate; they do it out of pure love for the tradition. Monday night will be pedestrian-only and free for all to enjoy. After that, visitors can drive through the sparkling wonderland until Christmas. So, if you’re in the Portland area, make sure to swing by Peacock Lane for a dose of holiday magic and community spirit.
