Sesame Street Seeks New Home as HBO and Max Choose Not to Renew Deal
Sesame Street, the beloved children’s TV show, is looking for a new home! Warner Bros. Discovery has decided not to renew its deal with HBO and Max, so the original episodes of the program will need a new place to live.
The good news is that Max will be teaming up with Sesame Workshop, the show’s producer, to license episodes from its library until 2027. What’s not clear yet is whether this library deal will stop other potential new partners from getting their hands on the old episodes.
It seems like Max is shifting its focus away from children’s programming to more adult and family content. A Max spokesperson shared their excitement about working on the iconic show, saying they are happy to keep some of the library series on Max in the U.S. They’re committed to making sure Sesame Street continues to reach as many children as possible for years to come, which is fantastic news!
For those who might not know, Sesame Street has been around since 1969, originally airing on PBS in 1970. In 2019, after a move to HBO in 2016, the show found a new home on HBO Max (now just Max). It’s been quite the journey!
We can’t wait to see where Sesame Street ends up next and how it continues to bring joy to kids everywhere. Here’s to many more years of learning and fun with our favorite furry friends!
