Sesame Street in search of new home following HBO Max deal non-renewal

Sesame Street is on the lookout for a new place to call home! The beloved children’s TV show is on the move after Warner Bros. Discovery decided not to renew their deal with HBO and Max. This means that original episodes of Sesame Street will need to find a new spot to hang out.

Max will be teaming up with the show’s producer, Sesame Workshop, to continue licensing episodes from its library until 2027. However, it’s still unclear whether this library deal would prevent other possible partners from also picking up these older episodes.

The decision not to renew the deal with HBO and Max was driven by a shift in focus towards more adult and family programming, with less of a spotlight on children’s shows. A Max spokesperson shared, “It has been a wonderful, creative experience working with everyone at Sesame Street on the iconic children’s series, and we are thrilled to be able to keep some of the library series on Max in the U.S.”

Sesame Street first made its debut in 1969, with episodes airing on PBS since 1970. In 2016, the show moved to HBO and eventually to HBO Max in 2019, which later changed its name to Max. This move aimed to ensure that Sesame Street reaches as many children as possible, both now and in the future.

So, while Sesame Street may be looking for a new home, rest assured that the colorful characters and educational fun will soon find a new place to continue spreading joy to kids everywhere. Let’s stay tuned for more updates on where Sesame Street will be going next!
