YouTube TV price hike despite recent denial of false report

YouTube TV, a popular streaming service, recently announced that it will be raising its prices in the new year. Subscribers can expect to see an increase from $73 to $83 on January 13, 2025. The decision, according to an email sent to customers by Google, was made in response to the rising cost of content and the need to invest in improving the service.

While the price hike may come as a disappointment to some subscribers, Google emphasized its commitment to providing valuable features like unlimited DVR storage and multiview, along with a vast library of movies and shows. Customers who wish to pause or cancel their subscription can easily do so in their Settings, and any ongoing trials or promotions will remain unchanged.

This price increase follows a recent promotion by Verizon on Facebook that mistakenly advertised a $10 per month discount on YouTube TV. The official TeamYouTube account clarified that the promotion displayed an incorrect price for the Base Plan, highlighting the temporary nature of the error.

This move by YouTube TV comes at a time when the streaming landscape is evolving rapidly. In the past, YouTube TV positioned itself as a cost-effective alternative to traditional cable TV. However, with this latest price increase to $83 per month, it now aligns closely with Hulu Plus Live TV, which includes additional services like Disney Plus and ESPN Plus.

Over the years, YouTube TV has seen gradual price hikes, starting at $35 per month in 2017 and increasing to $73 in March 2023. Despite these changes, the service continues to offer valuable features and a wide range of content to its subscribers. As the streaming market becomes more competitive, it will be interesting to see how YouTube TV adapts to meet the needs of its users.
