Where to Watch ’28 Days Later’ Online: Streaming Options & Availability
A trailer for ’28 Years Later’ dropped recently, signaling the return of Danny Boyle and Alex Garland teaming up again. Boyle is back in the director’s chair after six years. The trailer does a great job sparking curiosity about the story without giving too much away. Actor Taylor Holmes’s haunting recitation of Rudyard Kipling’s poem “Boots” adds to the intrigue.
With ’28 Days Later’ being a classic, I thought of rewatching the first two films before June 20th, 2025, as a refresher. However, the first movie seems to have disappeared from streaming services. ’28 Weeks Later’ is on Hulu and available for rent on various platforms, but its predecessor is nowhere to be found legally. Physical copies are also scarce, and if you want to get your hands on one, you might have to pay a hefty price.
It’s frustrating not to find such a noteworthy film readily available for viewing, especially in this digital age. However, there’s hope that ’28 Days Later’ might find its way to Netflix soon, given the interest around it. This situation raises concerns about the digital world’s limitations, as many valuable titles have been taken off streaming platforms without returning. Hopefully, studios will focus not only on new content but also on making archival material more accessible in the future.
Like with other examples of disappearing content, such as songs getting greyed out on music streaming services, classic films are also at risk of vanishing. A shift towards preserving and making these titles easily available should be a priority. Fans shouldn’t have to jump through hoops to watch iconic movies like ’28 Days Later’. Let’s stay tuned, hope for better archiving strategies, and possibly get our DVD shelves ready for these beloved films.
