Amazon Donates $1 Million to Trump Inaugural Fund and Streams Event on Prime Video
Amazon is getting into the spirit of giving by donating $1 million to President-elect Donald Trump’s inaugural fund. But that’s not all – the company is also showcasing the event on its Prime Video service, doubling their contribution to a whopping $2 million. This generous gesture was confirmed by an Amazon spokesperson and first reported by the Wall Street Journal.
Joining Amazon in the donation game is Meta Platforms, chipping in another $1 million towards the Jan. 20 inauguration. Jeff Bezos, Amazon’s founder and executive chairman, is set to meet with Trump next week, as announced by the president-elect in an interview with CNBC. It’s worth noting that Trump has been critical of the Washington Post’s coverage of his presidency, which happens to be owned by Bezos. The Post made the decision not to endorse a candidate in the recent November election, missing out on backing Democratic contender Kamala Harris, according to National Public Radio.
Bezos stood by the Post’s choice, penning an opinion piece that highlighted the need to improve media credibility in the face of perceived bias. On a celebratory note, Trump managed to raise an impressive $106.7 million for his 2017 inauguration events. It’s clear that the spirit of generosity is alive and well in the tech world, with Amazon and Meta stepping up to support the upcoming inauguration.
