Dream Productions (Disney+) Review – Gamereactor UK
Inside Out 2 has been the standout success of the year, breaking records with its exploration of the shift from childhood to adolescence through a range of emotions in the mind. The animated sequel has raked in over $1.6 billion and now Disney is capitalizing on its success with a new four-episode mini-series on Disney+ called The Dream Productions.
In the original Inside Out movie, we caught a glimpse of Dream Productions, a creative hub in the mind where ideas come together to form dreams. The series dives deeper into this concept, following the adventures of renowned dream director Paula Persimmon as she navigates the changing landscape of Riley’s mind. Paula teams up with a young daydream director named Xeni to keep her job, leading to a clash of styles and lots of hilarious moments.
Dream Productions introduces us to a host of quirky characters like production assistant Janelle and studio head Jean Dewberry. Presented in a mockumentary format, the series weaves together gags and fourth-wall-breaking scenes to create a lighthearted and entertaining story. As Riley grapples with the ups and downs of adolescence, her dreams reflect her emotional journey, tapping into universal themes of fitting in and growing up.
While Dream Productions may not have the same depth as the films, it offers a charming and enjoyable extension of the Inside Out universe. The series strikes a balance between humor and heart, filling the gap between the two movies with engaging storytelling and colorful animation. It’s a delightful addition that fans of the franchise are sure to enjoy.
