Iconic actress and Oscar-winner Michelle Yeoh isn’t slowing down anytime soon. While currently captivating audiences in the role of the shady Madame Morrible in Wicked, she is set to return to her infamous character, former Empress Phillipa Georgiou, in the upcoming Paramount+ film, Star Trek: Section 31, hitting screens on January 24. Originally conceived as a series, Paramount revamped the project into a film that delves into Yeoh’s charismatic yet morally grey character first introduced in Star Trek: Discovery.

The newest trailer for Star Trek: Section 31 gives us a glimpse of the action unfolding on a luxurious casino planet, or maybe a space station—it’s a bit ambiguous. Fans of the franchise will be thrilled to see the return of the alien species Cheron, known for their distinctive black-and-white appearance, last seen in 1969’s “Let That Be Your Last Battlefield” episode of the original series. This species, once thought to be extinct, is now residing in the Alpha Quadrant.

Section 31, as the film’s title suggests, sheds light on Starfleet’s clandestine black ops division. Initially introduced in Star Trek: Deep Space Nine as a mysterious entity, Section 31 has operated covertly within the Federation for centuries, as explored in prequel series like Enterprise and Discovery. Yeoh’s character, originating from the dark Mirror Universe, has found a place within this secretive organization in the Prime Universe. While we’re left guessing about Section 31’s mission in the movie, one thing is certain—Georgiou seems to be relishing in her morally ambiguous pursuits.

Star Trek: Section 31 is set to premiere on Paramount+ on January 24, 2025. Get ready for an intriguing and action-packed adventure with Michelle Yeoh at the helm.
