Highest TV Viewing Levels in November Since February, Streaming Surges

The spike in TV viewing in November was driven by a variety of factors including sports, the presidential election, and live streaming. Broadcast TV saw a 3% increase in viewing time, with the MLB World Series and NFL games drawing in huge audiences. The Dodgers’ victory in Game 5 of the World Series was a standout moment, attracting 18.2 million viewers.
The presidential election coverage also had a significant impact on viewing habits, with cable TV seeing a jump in viewership share during the election week. Cable news specifically saw a 32% increase in viewing minutes during that time.
Streaming services saw a 7.6% increase in viewership, with Netflix, The Roku Channel, Prime Video, and YouTube all hitting record highs in terms of share of TV viewing. Netflix had a strong showing during week three with the Jake Paul vs. Mike Tyson boxing match and its original series “The Lincoln Lawyer” driving viewership.
