Weather Alert: Flood Warning Extended for Attoyac Bayou Near Chireno
Hey there! Just a heads up for those in Rusk, Nacogdoches, San Augustine, and Shelby Counties, the Flood Warning for Attoyac Bayou near Chireno has been extended. Minor flooding is expected, so please be cautious. Remember, avoid driving through flooded areas and be careful around riverbanks.
The warning will stay in effect until tomorrow evening, with minor flooding already occurring and expected to continue. At 14.0 feet, lowland flooding is anticipated in the floodplain, so ranchers with cattle or equipment near the river should relocate to higher ground.
As of 9:30 AM CST Monday, the stage was at 14.8 feet, just above the 14.0 feet flood stage. The river is predicted to peak at 14.8 feet this afternoon before dropping below flood stage overnight.

On a different note, Whitehouse schools have some exciting changes lined up for the upcoming school year. At a recent board meeting, new placements, hirings, and retirements were announced.
Richard Peacock has been appointed as the new Assistant Superintendent, moving up from his previous role as Executive Director of Special Services. Tony Black will take over as principal at Whitehouse High School in Peacock’s place.
Other changes include Diane DeSalvo at Cain Elementary, Tiffany Manley and Ginger Halford at Stanton-Smith, and Terry Stadler and Ashley Woods at Holloway’s campus. Mary Kay Wisener will step into the lead librarian role at Whitehouse High School.
Additionally, long-time assistant band directors Beth and James Clifton will be retiring, bringing an end to their dedicated service.
Lastly, some business matters were approved, including a new meal price schedule for the upcoming school year and an amended Construction Manager at Risk Contract for emergency repair services at Whitehouse High School.
