Hulu is diving into the drama surrounding the Murdaugh family with a new scripted series set to start production in Atlanta in March. The series will be filmed at Doraville’s Assembly Studios, with production tentatively scheduled from March 3 to June 13, 2025. Assembly Studios is currently the home of other upcoming TV series like NBC’s “Grosse Pointe Garden Society” and CBS’s “Beyond the Gates.”

Actor Jason Clarke, known for his work in “Oppenheimer” and HBO’s “Winning Time,” will take on the role of Alex Murdaugh, who is currently serving a life sentence for the deaths of his wife and son in 2021. Along with the murders, he was found guilty of embezzling millions from his law firm and clients. Despite acknowledging the theft, he continues to deny involvement in the murders and is appealing his conviction.

Joining the cast is Academy Award-winning actress Patricia Arquette, who will portray Maggie Murdaugh. Arquette is known for her roles in TV series like “Medium” and the current Apple TV+ series “Severance,” as well as films like “Boyhood” and “True Romance.”

The Murdaugh family, once a powerful force in South Carolina’s Lowcountry region, has faced a string of legal troubles over the years. Their story has already been told in the popular 2023 Netflix documentary “The Murdaugh Murders” and the Lifetime movie “The Murdaugh Murders: A Movie” starring Bill Paxton.

This new Hulu series is inspired by the reporting of Mandy Matney, a journalist and creator of the well-known “Murdaugh Murders Podcast.” Stay tuned for more updates on this captivating series as production kicks off next year!
