Music Supervisor for Netflix Reality Dating Shows

I’ve always dreamed of being a music icon, but here I am, sweating through my clothes in a mobile edit bay somewhere in South America, working as the music supervisor for all those reality dating shows on Netflix.

This job kind of chose me, just like those balaclava-clad men who grabbed me from that suspicious warehouse posing as a tropipop songwriters meetup. I create those catchy tunes you hear on the shows, using an old Pro Tools setup, a guitar with a bit of history, and vocal recordings from our production assistant who dreams of being a singer but is currently…well, a production assistant.

Every day is packed with madness. When a new contestant strolls in with shady intentions, I tweak the music to match the vibe. Suspicious sounds, like “The right reasons don’t mean nothing to me,” echo through the mix as tensions rise in the living quarters.

And when things get heated at the bar, I amp up the guitars and drums for dramatic effect. A weird goblet flies across the room, and a voice screams something incomprehensible amid the chaos.

During the reunion episode, a contestant with a secret family spills the beans. As tears well up, I bring in hopeful chords and strings to capture the drama. It’s all about creating the right ambience.

But my job isn’t just about setting the mood—I play a crucial role in keeping this whole operation afloat. The cost of licensing a single song could throw off our entire budget, so I stick to creating unique sounds using what I have.

They rely on me here, pounding away on these drum pads, to finish the music for season seven. Maybe then they’ll give me back my passport. Until then, I’ll keep crafting the tunes that make these shows so addictive.
