Amazon Prime Video’s ‘Cross’ Reportedly Garnering Huge Viewership Numbers
Amazon Prime Video may not have the same glitz and glamour as Netflix, but it still reels in a massive audience. According to Variety, Cross, the series based on James Patterson’s Alex Cross novels, has attracted a whopping 40 million viewers in just 20 days since its release.
Prime Video is proud to announce that Cross ranks as its third most popular series of the year, trailing behind only the first season of Fallout and the second season of Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power. Previously, Amazon reported that Fallout hit 65 million viewers in 16 days, while Rings of Power reached 40 million in 11 days, eventually growing to 55 million over the course of a month. Within just 20 days of its premiere, Cross has become Amazon’s sixth biggest launch of all time. Surprisingly, 55% of the show’s viewers come from outside of the United States, with particular success in countries like Germany, the U.K., Brazil, Canada, and Spain.
Amazon doesn’t define “viewership” as other streaming services do. For Netflix and Disney, it typically involves calculating total minutes watched divided by the show’s length. However, for Amazon, someone could be counted as a viewer after watching just five minutes before clicking away.
The series features Aldis Hodges in the lead role, supported by a talented cast including Isaiah Mustafa, Juanita Jennings, Alona Tal, Samantha Walkes, Caleb Elijah, Melody Hurd, Jennifer Wigmore, Eloise Mumford, and Ryan Eggold. Cross revolves around a Black urban detective and showcases his various investigative cases.
In other news, Variety reports that The Day of the Jackal, a show starring Eddie Redmayne as the eponymous Jackal, has been renewed for a second season. The series follows the journey of a skilled contract killer pitted against a determined British intelligence officer, played by Lashana Lynch, in an intense chase across Europe.
Moreover, the highly-anticipated fight between Jake Paul and Mike Tyson on Netflix has shattered records, drawing a staggering 108 million viewers globally. This momentous event set a new milestone as the “most streamed global sporting event ever,” delivering an average minute audience of 108 million viewers worldwide and peaking at 65 million concurrent viewers.
