In recent weeks, there’s been a lot of buzz about the upcoming Harry Potter TV series and the actors being considered for key roles. HBO and Warner Brothers are on the lookout for actors to play the adult roles in the highly anticipated show. None of these actors have officially signed on yet, but they’re definitely on the radar. The show’s creators are aiming for more age-appropriate actors than the original films had.

Mark Rylance, known for his role in “Dunkirk,” is currently the front-runner to play Professor Dumbledore, but Mark Strong, from “Kingsman” and “The Penguin,” is also being considered. Paapa Essiedu, best known for “I May Destroy You,” is still the top choice for a reimagined Professor Snape.

New reports suggest that actresses Sharon Horgan from “Game Night” and Rachel Weisz from “The Mummy” are being looked at for the role of Professor Minerva McGonagall, originally played by the late Maggie Smith. There’s also talk of Janet McTeer from “Ozark” being considered for the role. And last but not least, Brett Goldstein, the lovable actor from “Ted Lasso” and “Thor: Love & Thunder,” is a potential candidate for the role of Rubeus Hagrid, to be played in a fat suit. Production is set to begin next summer in Leavesden, UK.

The much-anticipated Harry Potter TV series is expected to exclusively premiere on HBO sometime in 2027. Lots of exciting developments to keep an eye on in the magical world of Harry Potter!
