Dizzy Birds Rotisserie in Biddeford Closing on December 31
Dizzy Birds Rotisserie, a beloved spot in downtown Biddeford, recently shared on social media that it will be closing its doors on December 31st. Chef-owner Tom Peacock mentioned that since the pandemic hit, there has been a noticeable shift in how people choose to dine.
Before the pandemic, the restaurant saw a mix of dine-in and takeout/delivery orders, with a majority leaning towards dine-in. However, in the current climate, the scales have tipped heavily towards takeout and delivery. This change has posed challenges for many restaurants, including Dizzy Birds, as delivery programs often come with high commissions that eat into profits.
Peacock also mentioned difficulties in finding and retaining staff. Despite half of his team being with Dizzy Birds since the beginning, he has struggled to compete with the higher wages offered by restaurants in Portland.
Known for its ethically raised, organic rotisserie chickens and scratch-made sides, Dizzy Birds has been a community favorite. The outpouring of love and support from patrons has been heartwarming, with many expressing sadness at the news of the closure.
Looking ahead, Peacock is considering a franchise model for Dizzy Birds, with plans to potentially open scaled-back versions of the restaurant in the area in the coming years. In the meantime, there may be opportunities to purchase Dizzy Birds take-and-bake items at local markets.
While navigating the road ahead may be uncertain, Peacock remains proud of what Dizzy Birds has accomplished and is optimistic about the future. Despite the challenges faced, the spirit of community and dedication to quality food remain at the heart of Dizzy Birds Rotisserie.
