Kids Content Driving Streaming Growth in Latin America
Kids content on Disney+ and Netflix is incredibly popular in Latin America, according to the latest report from BB Data, a Florida-based research firm. The report, called “Is Kids Content a Key Subscription Driver?” was published on December 4, revealing insights from surveys conducted throughout the year.
The data shows that both Netflix (47%) and Disney+ (48%) have successfully attracted family audiences in the region. However, kids content seems to be a bigger draw for Disney+ members, with 90% of them watching children’s programming compared to 70% of Netflix users. This aligns with Disney’s reputation for being more kid-focused and having a larger library of children’s content.
Among the most-watched genres on both platforms are animation, adventure, and family shows. About 33% of Disney+ subscribers and 30% of Netflix users in Latin America tune in to kids content on a daily basis.
In terms of specific content preferences, Pixar movies like the “Inside Out” series and “Elemental” were big hits on Disney+ in Q3, while Netflix users in the region favored titles like “Sing 2,” “How to Train Your Dragon 2,” and “The Boss Baby.”
When it comes to user experience, Netflix received high scores for audio/subtitles, playback quality, profile navigation, and personalized recommendations compared to Disney+. This could be a key factor in retaining family-oriented subscribers on both platforms.
Looking ahead, Netflix is projected to have over 54 million subscribers in Latin America by 2030, surpassing Disney+ with an expected 22 million subscribers.
The report emphasizes the importance of continuously adapting to meet the needs of family audiences to build loyalty among subscribers. As the streaming landscape evolves, both platforms will need to stay in tune with the preferences of this essential user base.
