Superman: Christopher Reeve Biopic Premieres on HBO Max on Dec. 7
HBO and Max are set to premiere SUPER/MAN: The Christopher Reeve Story, a touching and award-winning documentary detailing the life and impact of Christopher Reeve, on Saturday, December 7 at 8:00 p.m. ET/PT. Directed by Ian Bonhôte and Peter Ettedgui, the film provides an intimate glimpse into the legendary actor and activist’s life through his own words and perspectives from those who knew him best.
This highly acclaimed documentary, produced by DC Studios in collaboration with various other entities, premiered earlier this year at the Sundance Film Festival and has already received six Critics Choice Documentary Awards.
Christopher Reeve was famously known for portraying Superman on the big screen, but his personal triumphs, advocacy, and love are equally heroic. SUPER/MAN follows Reeve’s journey before and after a life-changing horseback riding accident in 1995 that left him paralyzed. Despite his physical limitations, Reeve championed medical research and disability rights, balancing his work as an actor, filmmaker, and devoted family man.
The documentary sheds light on Reeve’s evolution from a Hollywood icon to a real-life hero. Through the Christopher Reeve Foundation, later renamed the Christopher & Dana Reeve Foundation, he spearheaded groundbreaking medical research and initiatives for individuals with disabilities worldwide. Supported by his wife Dana Reeve, who continued their advocacy after his passing, Reeve’s legacy lives on today.
Using a combination of never-before-seen home videos, personal archives, and intimate interviews, the film captures Reeve’s life in a detailed and emotional manner. Extended interviews with his children, family members, and friends like Susan Sarandon and Glenn Close, as well as archival footage with Robin Williams, showcase Reeve’s impact and multifaceted talent.
An emotional and cinematic portrayal of perseverance and legacy, SUPER/MAN: The Christopher Reeve Story pays tribute to Reeve’s unwavering bravery, resilience, and love that defined his life. It goes beyond just celebrating an actor to showcasing how Reeve himself became a symbol of hope and courage.
If you’re a fan of Christopher Reeve or simply inspired by human triumph, this documentary is a must-watch. Catch it on HBO and Max on December 7, 2024, from 8:00-9:45 p.m. ET/PT.
