Limbani’s Story: Rescued Chimpanzees Count at 25

0

In an exciting turn of events, Limbani the chimpanzee has been rescued thanks to the efforts of PETA and the attention brought by HBO Max’s docuseries Chimp Crazy. Before his rescue, Limbani was kept in isolation at the Zoological Wildlife Foundation, a location featured in Tiger King, making him one of the last chimpanzees in the U.S. to be kept away from others of his kind. But now, he has found a new home at the spacious and lush sanctuary Save the Chimps, where he will be able to live freely without being exploited for cruel photo-ops.

This victory not only marks a win for Limbani but also for PETA, as it signifies the rescue of 25 chimpanzees from roadside zoos and the pet trade. PETA has also committed to supporting Limbani’s lifelong care at Save the Chimps, ensuring that he can explore, play, climb, and socialize with his fellow chimpanzees.

Limbani’s story is one of exploitation and deprivation, as he was taken away from his mother at just four days old and forced to live in isolation for years. The Zoological Wildlife Foundation used him for photo ops and public encounters, despite the dangers involved. PETA’s efforts played a crucial role in bringing Limbani’s rescue to light, with multiple complaints submitted to state officials and a reward offered for information leading to his confiscation.

PETA continues to work towards rescuing more chimpanzees from roadside zoos and the pet trade, with 24 other chimpanzees already transferred to accredited sanctuaries. You can join PETA in advocating for the Captive Primate Safety Act, which aims to ban private ownership and commercial activities involving primates in the pet trade. With your support, more rescues like Limbani’s can become a reality.

If you have any information about other chimpanzees in captivity who are in need of rescue, including Bow and Ricky, you are encouraged to contact PETA. Together, we can make a difference and help chimpanzees like Limbani live the life they deserve.
