NJ Board Approves Initial Phase of $900M Netflix Production Facility at Former Army Base

Netflix is moving into New Jersey in a big way! The first phase of their new $900 million state-of-the-art production facility at a former Army base on the Jersey Shore just got the green light from the local planning board.

The plan includes transforming a 289-acre former Fort Monmouth site into a hub for film and television production. The first phase will focus on a 29-acre area called the McAfee zone, mainly in Oceanport and some in Eatontown. They want to build four soundstages as the starting point of a larger campus for actors and production crews.

There were some concerns raised about signage and a study on traffic impacts, but Netflix intends to enhance security by surrounding the campus with a concrete wall.

This won’t happen overnight, though. Approval is also needed from Eatontown and state authorities, including the Department of Environmental Protection.

Netflix plans to invest $848 million in developing soundstages, office space, helipads, theaters, hotels, and other studio-related structures at the Jersey Shore site. In return, they’ll get tax breaks for producing content there for at least a decade.

Netflix’s goal is to begin construction by the end of next year, showing their commitment to making New Jersey a hotspot for modern film production. This promises to create numerous job opportunities and strengthen the local economy.
