over 210,000 square feet, the Cleveland Clinic Global Peak Performance Center (GPPC) is set to open in 2027. It will serve as the Cavaliers’ new practice facility and provide sports medicine, wellness, and care services for elite athletes and the public.

One of the main goals of this project is to go beyond just being a practice facility. The Cleveland Cavaliers wanted to create a space that would enhance the athletes’ experience and bring in top resources to help extend their careers and optimize their performance. Partnering with Bedrock Real Estate (Cleveland), the Cleveland Clinic aims to bring cutting-edge sports medicine to the GPPC through multidisciplinary care, innovative technologies, and a robust research program.

The GPPC will offer a wide range of services to cater to all aspects of an athlete’s needs. From personalized sports medicine consultations to mental health resources, the center will focus on optimizing performance, injury prevention, and recovery. Specialized programs in areas such as neurology, cardiovascular health, women’s health, genetics, and pediatrics will be available, with a team of experts in nutrition, physical therapy, and biometrics to support every athlete’s unique journey.

Including this facility as part of the riverfront redevelopment plan is a strategic move by Bedrock to revitalize the Cuyahoga riverfront. Designed by Populous, the GPPC aims to connect communities, create vibrant public spaces, and improve the environment. The design of the center is inspired by the colors and curves of the Cuyahoga River, with a focus on creating a local icon and providing a holistic and revolutionary approach to training for athletes.

Integrating the facility into the riverfront development posed some challenges, such as bulkhead improvements and ensuring public access to the center and riverfront. However, the project team is prioritizing public access, with plans for a 3,000-foot riverwalk along the Cuyahoga River to allow both elite athletes and the general public to enjoy the space.

As a major employer and service provider in the community, the Cleveland Clinic aims to create a healthier community through initiatives like the GPPC. The center will not only benefit the Cavaliers but also serve the community by offering comprehensive care to athletes of all levels and ages. Programs, educational initiatives, and community events will promote fitness, wellness, and a healthy lifestyle for all.

This project marks a continued partnership between the Cleveland Clinic and the Cavaliers, highlighting a commitment to both healthcare and sports excellence. The long-standing relationship between the two organizations has strengthened Cleveland’s position as a hub for innovation and community engagement in both healthcare and sports.

Overall, the Cleveland Clinic Global Peak Performance Center is set to be a game-changer for Cleveland, offering state-of-the-art sports medicine and wellness services to athletes and the general public, while also contributing to the revitalization of the city’s riverfront.
