Landman has made quite the splash with its debut on Paramount+, setting a new ratings record, Paramount revealed recently. The show premiered on Nov. 17 and drew in a total of 14.6 million viewers across Paramount+ and linear preview in its first seven days, making it the biggest global premiere week for an original show on Paramount+ so far.

The show seems to be gaining momentum as well, with the numbers on the rise. In its second week, Landman reached 2.4 million households in the U.S., which is a significant 60 percent increase from its first week.

Starring Billy Bob Thornton as Tommy Norris, the show delves into the world of West Texas oil fields, where obtaining mineral rights and managing pumping projects can often lead to engaging in morally and legally grey areas to get the job done. Alongside Thornton, Landman features a star-studded cast including Ali Larter, Jon Hamm, Demi Moore, Michelle Randolph, Kayla Wallace, and James Jordan, among others.

As of now, Landman is four episodes into its 10-episode first season, with the fifth episode set to air this coming Sunday, Dec. 8. The show is created by Taylor Sheridan, co-creator of Yellowstone, and is based on a podcast called Boomtown by Christian Wallace, who is also a co-creator and executive producer of the show.

There’s still uncertainty around whether Landman will continue past its first season or remain a one-and-done project like Sheridan’s Yellowstone prequel, 1883. Thornton has expressed commitment to the show for as long as it runs, but Paramount has not confirmed additional seasons yet.

New episodes of Landman can be streamed on Paramount+ every Sunday, offering viewers an engaging look into the high-stakes world of the West Texas oil fields.
