The folks behind the Percy Jackson adaptation hit the casting jackpot with Courtney B. Vance stepping up to tackle the role of Zeus in the upcoming season. After the passing of Lance Reddick, who initially brought Zeus to life, Disney went with Courtney B. Vance to carry on the portrayal of the Greek god. According to Variety, Vance, known for his work on Law and Order: Criminal Intent and more recently Grotesquerie, shared his excitement about joining the project. In a statement, Vance expressed his enthusiasm saying, “I can’t tell you how excited I am to join the extraordinary cast of Percy Jackson and the Olympians! There are few moments in an actor’s career when you can honestly say that you’re about to board a series that has such a devoted fan base filled with characters beloved around the world and is based on a wildly successful book series.” He also mentioned his desire to honor Lance Reddick’s memory by taking on the role of Zeus.

Producer and co-showrunner of the series, Dan Shotz, also chimed in, noting that finding the right actor to fill Zeus’s shoes wasn’t easy but they knew they were on the right path when Courtney B. Vance signed up. Season 2 of Percy Jackson and the Olympians, set to premiere in 2025 on Disney+, will dive into the book Percy Jackson and the Olympians: Sea of Monsters, bringing new characters into the mix. Alongside Vance as Zeus, Daniel Diemer will play Percy’s half-brother Tyson, and Tamara Smart and Andra Day will take on the roles of Thalia Grace and Athena, respectively.

Sandra Bernhard, Kristen Schaal, Margaret Cho, and Timothy Simons are also set to join the series, adding their talents to the retelling of the beloved saga. With such an impressive lineup, there is no doubt that fans of the Percy Jackson series have something exciting to look forward to when the new season debuts.
