Tabby McTat Wins Big at International Emmys for Children’s Programming

The 2024 International Emmy Awards celebrated outstanding international kids’ entertainment in New York last night. Magic Light Pictures’ holiday special, “Tabby McTat,” won the Best Kids Animation award. This heartwarming tale of a singing cat’s journey back to its owner premiered on BBC One/BBC iPlayer and captured the hearts of 8.6 million UK viewers.
Magic Light Pictures has a history of success in this Emmy category, with previous wins for specials like “Room on the Broom,” “Revolting Rhymes,” “Zog,” and “The Smeds and the Smoos.” The London-based studio also received a nomination for the 2025 Kidscreen Awards in the preschool programming category for “Tabby McTat.”
In the Best Kids Factual category, Mexico’s Pictoline and Warner Bros. Discovery took home the Emmy for their 2D-animated miniseries, “The Secret Life of Your Mind,” which explores the mysteries of the human brain on HBO Max LatAm.
Additionally, Denmark’s Apple Tree Productions won the Kids Live-Action category with “One of the Boys,” a coming-of-age series about a boy navigating social challenges at camp and unexpectedly finding romance.
