Director of Popular Apple TV+ Movie Loses Trust in Apple for Sequel

The director of the hit film “Wolfs” on Apple TV+, Jon Watts, recently made the decision to not move forward with a planned sequel, citing a breakdown in trust with Apple. In an interview with Deadline, Watts expressed his disappointment with Apple’s last-minute change from a promised wide theatrical release to a limited one-week run before the film’s streaming debut on Apple TV+.

Despite the success of “Wolfs” as the most-viewed film in Apple TV+ history, Watts was blindsided by the change in release strategy, which was announced publicly less than a week before it took effect. He had been excited about the project after Apple gave him the green light to work on a sequel following their positive reception of his final cut earlier in the year.

According to Watts, he had asked Apple not to mention the sequel in their press release about the altered release strategy, but his request went unheeded. Feeling disheartened by the situation, he made the difficult decision to return the money he had received for the sequel, stating that he no longer felt Apple was a trustworthy creative partner.

“Wolfs” premiered in select theaters on September 20 and hit Apple TV+ for streaming just a week later, on September 27. While sources at Apple view the film as a success, it’s uncertain whether a sequel will be pursued following this turn of events.
