Vettaiyan to be Released on Amazon Prime Video: Here’s the Premiere Date
Prime Video has announced the global streaming premiere of the Tamil action-drama Vettaiyan, set to debut on November 8. Directed by T.J. Gnanavel, the film features renowned actors Rajinikanth and Amitabh Bachchan, along with a stellar ensemble cast including Fahadh Faasil, Rana Daggubati, Dushara Vijayan, Manju Warrier, Ritika Singh, and Abhirami in key roles.
Vettaiyan follows the story of SP Athiyan (Rajinikanth), a daring police officer known for his unwavering dedication to investigation and justice within the police force. After a failed mission leads to the tragic death of an innocent individual, Athiyan is confronted with the consequences of his ruthless tactics. As he delves into a complex web of criminal activities and internal conflicts, Athiyan grapples with a profound moral dilemma that forces him to reassess his beliefs regarding justice and redemption.
The film will be available for streaming on Prime Video in Tamil, with dubbed versions in Telugu, Malayalam, Kannada, and Hindi, accessible in India and across 240 countries and territories worldwide starting November 8. Vettaiyan marks the thirtieth production of Lyca Productions and serves as Amitabh Bachchan’s debut in Tamil cinema, with music composed by Anirudh Ravichander.
In a review by Hindustan Times, it was noted that Director Gnanavel struggled to strike a balance between leveraging Rajinikanth’s star power and effectively incorporating social commentary into the narrative. While the film commended Rajinikanth’s portrayal of social issues, the storytelling failed to maintain engagement, with the second half becoming predictable and underwhelming after a promising first half.
Trade analyst Ramesh Bala previously shared insights with Hindustan Times, suggesting that Vettaiyan was expected to transition to OTT platforms around November 7. Given the typical timeline for Tamil film releases on streaming services following a theatrical run, Vettaiyan was projected to make its way to Amazon Prime Video shortly. However, with the film still in theaters, official confirmation of the OTT release was anticipated closer to the intended streaming date.
