Monster to Investigate Ed Gein Following Menendez Brothers Case

Ryan Murphy, the creator of the popular true crime show “Monster,” has revealed that the upcoming third season will delve into the dark story of Ed Gein. Gein, also known as the Butcher of Plainfield or the Plainfield Ghoul, was a notorious figure who inspired iconic characters in pop culture such as Norman Bates from Psycho, Buffalo Bill from Silence Of The Lambs, and Leatherface from The Texas Chainsaw Massacre. Murphy made this announcement during a promotional event in Los Angeles for the show’s second season.

Ed Gein confessed to the murders of two women, tavern owner Mary Hogan in 1954 and hardware store owner Bernice Worden in 1957, and is believed to be connected to at least four more deaths. However, his most chilling legacy lies in his macabre habit of fashioning furniture, clothing, masks, and other items from human remains. He obtained these materials from the women he killed and from bodies he exhumed from a local cemetery. Gein passed away from lung cancer in a mental health facility in 1984 and was buried in an unmarked grave in his hometown in Wisconsin.

Charlie Hunnam, known for his role in “Sons Of Anarchy,” is set to portray Ed Gein in the upcoming season of “Monster.” Hunnam has been making waves in the industry with his versatile performances and is also lined up to star in the series “Criminal” for Amazon alongside Adria Arjona, Emilia Clarke, and Luke Evans. His recent projects include “Rebel Moon—Part One: A Child Of Fire,” Apple TV+’s “Shantaram,” “Last Looks,” and “The Gentlemen.”

“Monster,” co-created by Ryan Murphy and Ian Brennan, premiered on Netflix in 2022 with the controversial yet highly popular series “Dahmer: Monster—The Jeffrey Dahmer Story,” featuring Evan Peters as the infamous cannibal. The show’s second season, “Monsters: The Lyle and Erik Menendez Story,” tells the tale of the Menendez brothers who were convicted of killing their parents in 1996. Starring Nicholas Alexander Chavez and Cooper Koch as Lyle and Erik, with Javier Bardem and Chloë Sevigny as their parents, this season sheds light on the brothers’ claims of enduring years of abuse.

As fans eagerly await the exploration of Ed Gein’s chilling story in the upcoming season of “Monster,” the show continues to captivate audiences with its gripping narratives and stellar performances. Stay tuned for more updates on this thrilling true crime series.
