New Netflix Release: Godzilla -1 Drops Unexpectedly Today

Godzilla Minus One, a film directed by Takashi Yamakazi, is now available for streaming on Netflix worldwide, excluding Japan and France. Additionally, viewers have the option to purchase or rent digital copies in color or black and white from platforms like Apple TV, Amazon, and Google Play.

Written and directed by Takashi Yamakazi, Godzilla Minus One delves into the origins of the iconic giant kaiju, set in the aftermath of World War II following the devastating nuclear bombings of Hiroshima and Nagasaki. The story centers around Kōichi Shikishima, a kamikaze pilot portrayed by Ryunosuke Kamiki, who opts to land on Odo Island instead of sacrificing himself for the war effort, ultimately becoming one of the few survivors of a Godzilla attack on the island.

Critics praised the film upon its theatrical release in December, with Charles Pulliam-Moore from The Verge describing it as a “spectacular disaster movie” that transcends its individual elements. Godzilla Minus One also garnered recognition in the form of awards, including an Academy Award for its impressive visual effects earlier this year.
