Discovery’s strategy to bring more content to HBO and MAX simultaneously.

In a recent development, it was revealed that The Penguin and another series, Dune: Prophecy, were initially labeled as MAX originals, causing some uncertainty among viewers. However, both shows have now been confirmed to transition over to HBO, providing viewers with broader access to these captivating stories.

Colin Farrell, an Oscar-nominee, will be reprising his role as Oz Cobb, also known as The Penguin, a character who gained popularity in Matt Reeves’ The Batman. The latest teaser for The Penguin hints at an intriguing plot, with notable characters like Sofia Falcone, portrayed by Cristin Milioti, and Salvatore Maroni, played by Clancy Brown, expected to play significant roles in the narrative.

Director Craig Zobel, known for his work on The Mare of Easttown, has signed on to direct the first two episodes of The Penguin and will serve as an executive producer for the project. The decision to move forward with The Penguin was made shortly after the successful premiere of The Batman in March 2021, indicating the high anticipation and confidence in the series.
