Shipwreck Hunters Australia Season 2 Set to Debut on Disney+
Disney+ has announced the upcoming Season 2 of Shipwreck Hunters Australia, a captivating Australian Original documentary series that delves into the gripping tales of survival and tragedy along Western Australia’s rugged “Treasure Coast.” The new six-part installment will continue to follow a team of intrepid ocean explorers as they plunge into the depths to uncover untold stories of shipwrecks.
Returning for Season 2 are the skilled crew of divers and underwater filmmakers, including Captain Ash Sutton, Andre Rerekura, Nush Freedman, Johnny Debnam, and Ryan Chatfield. They will be joined by expert maritime archaeologists from the Western Australian Museum, forming a formidable team dedicated to unraveling the mysteries hidden beneath the waves.
The upcoming expeditions promise to take viewers on a thrilling journey through the ocean’s depths, where they will witness firsthand the wonders of marine life and explore the rich history of Western Australia’s coastline, rumored to be the final resting place of over 1,600 shipwrecks. Season 1 of Shipwreck Hunters Australia featured remarkable discoveries such as the sunken Finnish-owned sailing ship Glenbank, which had been lost for 111 years, and a World War II-era Flying Boat that met its fate off the coast of Broome in 1942.
This enthralling series is a collaborative effort between VAM Media, Terra Australis Productions, and Barking Mad Productions, produced exclusively for Disney+. The production of Shipwreck Hunters Australia has been made possible through significant investment from Screen Australia, with additional support from Screenwest, Lotterywest, and the Western Australian Regional Screen Fund, as well as Tourism Western Australia.
Leading the creative team behind the series is director and producer Brendan Hutchens of VAM Media, known for his work on projects like Drawn to Water and Walking Man. Serving as the series producer is Russell Vines, whose credits include Ningaloo: Australia’s Other Great Reef and Australia’s Sleep Revolution with Dr. Michael Mosley. Executive producer Steve Bibb, who has previously worked on Inside the Sydney Opera House and Matildas: The World at Our Feet, rounds out the team dedicated to bringing the captivating stories of Shipwreck Hunters Australia to life on screen.
