Netflix Announces Four New Original Series from Mexico, Including ‘Santita’ Starring Gael Garcia Bernal

Netflix is gearing up for some exciting new series in Mexico, with four fresh shows in the works. Among them is “Santita,” starring Gael García Bernal, a testament to Netflix’s ongoing commitment to showcasing Mexican stories from local creators.

In the wake of a massive $1 billion investment in local production earlier this year, directors and showrunners gathered at Netflix’s Mexican office to announce the upcoming series. The lineup includes “Love 9 to 5 (Amor de oficina),” “I’m Not Afraid (No tengo miedo),” and “Corruptors (Los corruptores).”

Additionally, Netflix bid farewell to the production of “Lovesick (Mal de amores),” an adaptation of Ángeles Mastretta’s novel, directed by her daughter Catalina Aguilar Mastretta.

These new additions join a host of other Mexican series set to debut this year, like “Snakes and Ladders,” “The Dead Girls,” “How to Win the Lottery,” “The Gringo Hunters,” “Unspeakable Sins,” and “No One Saw Us Leave.”

Carolina Leconte, Netflix Mexico’s vp of content, shared, “We continue to expand the range of stories to be told, but always betting on their authenticity. To achieve this, we are investing even more resources and efforts in the development phase of these productions, because dedicating more time to this phase brings tremendous benefits for both creators and audiences.” So, get ready for some captivating stories straight from Mexico!
