Producer Criticizes Apple TV+ for Poor Marketing
Apple TV+ has been making waves with its high-quality shows and star-studded productions since its launch in November 2019. However, despite its impressive lineup, some producers have voiced concerns about the platform’s marketing tactics.
Alex Berger, a French-American producer known for his hit espionage thriller “The Bureau,” which inspired George Clooney’s show “The Agency,” recently criticized Apple TV+ for its lackluster promotional efforts. Berger collaborated with Apple TV+ on the French series “La Maison,” which garnered critical acclaim but failed to receive the marketing support it needed to reach a wider audience.
In a statement to Variety, Berger called out Apple TV+ for being “the worst marketer in the universe” when it comes to promoting television shows, contrasting their success in marketing iPhones with their struggles in the TV realm. He expressed frustration over the lack of promotion for “La Maison,” despite its success in Europe, highlighting the crucial role marketing plays in a show’s success.
While Apple TV+ has produced acclaimed shows like “Ted Lasso” and worked with A-list stars like Harrison Ford and Leonardo DiCaprio, its marketing efforts have often fallen short of generating buzz for its content. Unlike other streaming platforms that prioritize visibility and engagement, Apple TV+ has been criticized for its low-key approach to promoting its shows and movies.
However, there are signs that Apple TV+ is stepping up its marketing game, with reports indicating a significant investment in advertising to increase its visibility and reach. As the streaming landscape becomes more competitive, Apple TV+ may need to rethink its marketing strategies to ensure its top-tier content receives the recognition it deserves.
