Why There Is No Season 3 of 1923: Explained
Taylor Sheridan’s 1923 series on Paramount+ has been a big hit, setting records in viewership, but unfortunately, there won’t be a Season 3. Instead, Sheridan is focusing on a new prequel series after the shocking ending of 1923.
The 1923 series was a key part of Sheridan’s Western universe that started with Yellowstone in 2018. However, the story won’t continue with 1923, but instead, a new prequel series called 1944 will delve into the life of John Dutton II during World War II.
Sheridan had planned for 1923 to only run for two seasons right from the start. In an interview with Deadline, he mentioned needing two blocks of eight episodes each to do justice to the story. He made the call to end the series after the second season to wrap up the narrative properly.
Fans had mixed feelings about the finale of 1923. While the show initially gained a strong following on Paramount+, some viewers felt let down by what they considered a lackluster ending. Comparisons were made to Sheridan’s other works like 1883, which were praised for their storytelling.
As for the new series, 1944, there is no production start date announced yet. This means that fans may have to wait until at least 2026 or later to see it on Paramount+. Keep an eye out for updates on the premiere date from the streaming service.
