Apple’s Upcoming Dark Sci-Fi Comedy: Release Date, Plot, Cast, and More

et Away with Murder’ but in space, with lots of sex and also there’s magic, but nobody’s really sure it’s magic” — than dealing with the day-to-day interactions required by its job. But when a new client — Dr. Mensah (Ali Wong) — starts getting under its skin, with her own moral qualms and a readiness to challenge its preconceived notions about what life as a security android is meant to look like, Murderbot’s “what am I?” mid-life crisis starts to truly kick in.Any time “Killing Eve” actress Jodie Comer appears onscreen, it’s fair to expect chaos. Here, she plays Pin-Lee, a software engineer who helps Murderbot learn about the wider world while also teaching it how to curse. Mensah’s wife, Arada (Aimee Carrero), sees through Murderbot’s tough-guy act and becomes something of a mother figure to the angsty contraption. Last but not least, Clark Peters stars as Mensah’s father, Tlacey, a retired astrobiologist who encourages Murderbot to learn about planets outside of its comfort zone.Beyond this core team, the show is peppered with treats for sci-fi lovers. Project director Marion Rudi (Rosamund Pike) has an algorithm that predicts what our post-climate change world will look like — spoiler: it’s not good — and Hacker Heart (Hannah Hart) brings the concept of cyberspace back into fashion. Meanwhile, Chris Chalk plays Martin, the face of a new AI that’s heading to space. Think HAL 9000 but with a personality (and Morning Show ties).Overall, “Murderbot” looks set to combine laugh-out-loud moments about social anxiety and commentary on the expectations of artificial intelligence with some high-octane action. That’s a combination that could well see it pushing Skarsgård into awards season in the near future.
