2025 Peabody Awards Nominations: Shogun, Hacks, Baby Reindeer

The Peabody Awards recently announced their nominations for the arts, children’s/youth, entertainment, and interactive and immersive categories. Three TV shows that were big winners at last year’s Emmys are in the running: Shōgun (Season 1), the epic Japanese historical drama from FX; Hacks (Season 3), a hilarious comedy about an aging stand-up comedian on Max; and Baby Reindeer, a limited series on Netflix about a young comic dealing with a stalker. Who else is feeling those Emmys déjà vu vibes?

A unanimous vote from 27 jurors led to over 1,000 entries being whittled down to these worthy nominees. The 85th Peabody Awards winners will be revealed May 1 and celebrated on June 1 at the Beverly Wilshire Hotel in Beverly Hills. The talented Roy Wood Jr. will host, and special honors will go to NBC News correspondent Andrea Mitchell and the iconic sketch-comedy show, Saturday Night Live.

Jeffrey Jones, the executive director of Peabody, praised all the nominees for telling impactful stories that entertain and enlighten audiences while expanding our understanding of humanity. From sweeping dramas to sharp comedies to moving children’s shows, the Peabody Awards seek to honor storytelling that leaves a lasting impact.

In the arts category, Photographer, a documentary series from National Geographic, explores the lives and missions of influential photographers, delving into their struggles and the cultural power of their work. The series shines a light on what drives these photographers in a world flooded with images.

In children’s/youth programming, Out of My Mind on Disney+ follows a sixth-grader with cerebral palsy navigating mainstream school for the first time, while Spirit Rangers on Netflix tells the colorful story of three siblings who transform into animal heroes to protect a national park in California, offering authentic representation for Native communities.

When it comes to entertainment, there are some exciting nominees to look out for. Alex Edelman: Just for Us on HBO Max is a deeply personal comedy special that reflects on identity and empathy. Clipped on FX/Hulu explores the downfall of Los Angeles Clippers owner Donald Sterling, and Fantasmas on HBO Max, created by Julio Torres, is a surreal comedy that delves into themes of alienation and queerness.

With a diverse range of nominees spanning genres and themes, the 2025 Peabody Awards are sure to honor groundbreaking storytelling and unforgettable performances. Stay tuned for the announcement of this year’s winners and get ready to celebrate these outstanding achievements in television and beyond.
