Julianne Nicholson takes on new role in ‘Paradise’ film

Julianne Nicholson is no stranger to portraying grief on screen. From her roles in “Mare of Eastown” to “Janet Planet,” she’s done it all. But she’s thrilled to tackle something different with her character, Sinatra, in the Hulu series “Paradise.” In a recent interview on NPR’s Wild Card, she shared her excitement about the change of pace. Nicholson finds it refreshing to step into a character like Sinatra who, while evil, also brings a sense of humor to the mix.

During the conversation, Nicholson also opened up about personal growth and the sacrifices she’s made along the way. One significant change for her was giving up alcohol in 2016. While acknowledging that it wasn’t an easy decision, she described it as a gift that has brought positive changes to her life. She candidly shared her experiences of navigating social situations without the crutch of alcohol, highlighting the challenges and rewards of sobriety.

When it comes to socializing, Nicholson admitted to feeling out of place in certain settings, especially when surrounded by unfamiliar faces. However, she finds solace in sticking close to a familiar friend as a social security blanket. As for her drink of choice now, sparkling water has become her go-to, with the occasional nonalcoholic beer or ginger beer when the mood strikes.

Nicholson’s journey to sobriety and the new challenges it brings have been a significant part of her personal growth. She emphasized the importance of giving oneself grace in social situations and finding comfort in being true to oneself, even if it means making unconventional choices like opting for nonalcoholic drinks.
