Joseph Charles Fisher, a beloved resident of Cedar Rapids, IA, and formerly of Belle Plaine, IA, passed away on April 11, 2025, at Mercy Medical Center in Cedar Rapids. Born on March 11, 1954, to Clifford and Blanche Fisher, Joseph was a proud graduate of Belle Plaine High School, part of the class of 1972. After his studies, Joseph joined Amana Refrigeration, where he dedicated many years of service before retiring at the age of 62.
Described as a stubborn Bohemian with an immense love for his family, Joseph held his daughter and granddaughter in the highest regard, affectionately referring to his granddaughter as “Bubach.” He took great pride in supporting his daughter’s passion for music and never missed one of her concerts. An active member of the United Church of Christ in Belle Plaine, Joseph took on maintenance duties and projects alongside his mother, showcasing his commitment to his community.
In his free time, Joseph enjoyed collecting unique items like lightning rod balls, weathervanes, and bar top handles with his daughter. He also had a talent for woodworking and crafts, often painting bowling pins and creating holiday ornaments for every season. Known for his festive spirit, Joseph loved decorating his yard for Christmas and treasured the time spent with family and friends during the holidays. He even played the role of Santa at various community and work events.
Joseph is survived by his partner, Ruth Goyer of Cedar Rapids, his daughter Emily (Kean Peacock) Fisher of Cedar Rapids, granddaughter NovaRae Peacock, brother David Fisher, nephew Randy Fisher, niece Christine McMurry, Ruth’s sister Theresa Ann Trimble, Ruth’s brother-in-law Doug Corporon, close friends and neighbors Bill and Chrissy Jones, and dear friend Sue Hearn. He was preceded in death by his parents and sister, Mary Catherine Fisher.
A Celebration of Life in honor of Joseph will be held at a later date, and memorials may be directed to the family. Joseph Charles Fisher will be greatly missed by all who knew him, and his memory will be cherished by those whose lives he touched.
