Jamaica Replaces China PR as USWNT Foe in St. Louis Friendly
The U.S. women’s national team has exciting news! Jamaica is stepping in to replace China PR as the opponent for a friendly match at Energizer Park in St. Louis on Tuesday, June 3. U.S. Soccer made the announcement recently, and fans can catch the action at 8 p.m. ET on TNT, Max, Universo, and Peacock in Spanish, as well as on the radio through Westwood One Sports.
But don’t worry, the USA will still play against China PR at Allianz Field in St. Paul, Minn., on Saturday, May 31, at 5:30 p.m. ET on TBS, Max, Universo, and Peacock in Spanish. The Chinese Football Association had initially agreed to two matches, but later informed U.S. Soccer that they could only play in the first one.
This match will mark the sixth meeting between the USA and Jamaica, with Jamaica having qualified for the last two Women’s World Cups and reaching the Round of 16 in 2023. Although they lost to Colombia in that stage, their performance was noteworthy as they tied with France and Brazil.
There’s more excitement in store for the St. Louis match as there will be a pre-game celebration for retired USWNT legend and defender Becky Sauerbrunn. Sauerbrunn, who played 219 times for the USA, will be commemorated for her outstanding career which included competing in three Olympics and three Women’s World Cups. While she had to sit out the 2023 tournament due to injury, fans can honor her contributions at the upcoming game. Sauerbrunn will also be part of the TNT broadcast team, making it a special night for USWNT fans.
