Doctor Who stars share preparation process for Disney+ show Scooby-Doo
Doctor Who fans, get ready for a unique episode in the upcoming season! The Doctor and Bel are going animated in an exciting live-action-animation hybrid episode. Ncuti Gatwa and Varada Sethu, the stars of the show, recently shared how they prepared for this new twist.
In the next episode, titled ‘Lux’, the Doctor and Bel will journey to 1950s Miami, where they stumble upon a menacing secret hidden in a local theater. This secret takes the form of Mister Ring-a-ding, a fully animated villain who kidnaps humans and turns them into animated characters.
The animation style used in this episode draws inspiration from Hanna-Barbera, a renowned animation studio. To embody their animated characters, Gatwa and Sethu were given a playful assignment by showrunner Russell T. Davies – watching Scooby-Doo! They needed to understand the exaggerated movements and expressions typical of animated characters to bring their roles to life.
According to Gatwa, this unique shooting experience was a highlight of the season. They had to think like cartoons and anticipate every movement before filming. Sethu added that the process was exciting, and they couldn’t wait to see the final result once the animation was completed.
It’s clear that the Doctor Who stars took their animated roles seriously, diving into the world of cartoons to deliver a memorable performance. The upcoming episode promises a fresh and playful take on the iconic sci-fi series, blending live-action and animation like never before. So, get ready to see the Doctor and Bel in a whole new light in this Disney+ show’s next installment!
