New Star Wars Series Launching on Disney+
Every year on May 4th, fans of the Star Wars universe come together to celebrate Star Wars Day in honor of George Lucas’s iconic creation. On this upcoming Star Wars Day in 2025, Disney+ has surprised fans with the announcement of a new animated series: Star Wars: Tales of the Underworld. Along with the announcement, an exciting trailer for the series has been released.
The new series, *Tales of the Underworld*, follows in the footsteps of the well-received *Tales of the Jedi*, launched in 2022, and *Tales of the Empire*, which premiered in 2024. The official synopsis teases that this new anthology will delve into “the sinister plots of two beloved Star Wars villains: the former assassin and bounty hunter Asajj Ventress, who finds herself with a new lease on life and an unexpected ally, and the outlaw Cad Bane, who must confront his past and face an old friend who has switched sides to the law.”
With six episodes in total, three will focus on Asajj Ventress’s story, while the remaining three episodes will center on Cad Bane. Fans will recognize Asajj Ventress from previous appearances in *Star Wars: The Clone Wars* and *Bad Batch*, and Cad Bane from *Star Wars: Rebels* and *The Book of Boba Fett*.
The series is once again brought to life by the talented team led by Dave Filoni, known for his work on *The Mandalorian* and *Ahsoka*, with the writing handled by Matt Michnovetz, who worked on *The Bad Batch*. The production team includes Athena Yvette Portillo, Carrie Beck, Alex Spotswood, and Josh Rimes.
Before we reach Star Wars Day on May 4th, fans can look forward to the second season of *Andor*, set to start streaming on Disney+ on April 23rd. With a galaxy of exciting content on the horizon, Star Wars enthusiasts have a lot to look forward to on Disney+ in the coming months.
